Baseball Betting Software

www.accuscore.com

Baseball betting software or some type of baseball handicapping program (proprietary or not) can be a very important addition to your betting strategy. I wouldn't go as far as saying that it's a "must have", but nowadays with the incredible capabilities of computers, I think it just about is.

Whether it's a program you create yourself or one that is purchased from a service, they can go a long way in processing a lot of information in a very short amount of time...where as in the old days, it was basically up to you to put in hours upon hours of work.

Again though, I'm not saying it's a "must have", but the right baseball betting software can save you a lot of time and give you a tremendous edge over the square handicapper. And as you know, any type of edge you find can be a key in increasing your ROI for the season.

For those that are just starting out, it's probably best to simply purchase a software program that is already on the market today. Now there's probably not a lot of +EV in doing this, but it's a good start so you can actually determine how it can supplement your handicapping.

For those that are much more computer savvy, then I would suggest creating your own software...which we'll talk more about below. It can be a grueling task at first, but once you have put in the up front time commitment and work out all of the kinks, it can offer incredible value to your overall handicapping.

This isn't just for baseball either though...it really applies to all sports that can be wagered on. The more sophisticated and accurate your forecasting model is, the better your ROI per bet will be...trust me, I can guarantee you that almost every sharp handicapper (along with the oddsmakers) uses some sort of software program in gathering and forecasting information.

The computer isn't biased like you and I can be. It's obviously very objective, however, it's also important to factor subjective variables as well. You get the point, let's move on.

What Makes a Good Baseball Betting Software

Anything that increases your ROI on a per season basis would make for a pretty good baseball betting software. Simple enough right? Well, there's a lot more to it than that, but you know what I'm getting at.

Obviously, accuracy is going to be very important. The data the software uses to evaluate teams, trends, statistics...etc, must be precise and up to date. Whether it's inputted manually (definitely wouldn't recommend this), downloaded from the website where it was purchased, of you're scraping it yourself, it needs to be exact.

If the data isn't accurate then the baseball betting software is pretty much worthless. If you're buying a program, it's tough to know if they've loaded correct data, so you should always do some fact checking.

Ease of use would be another important factor. If you've created your own, then this probably isn't an issue. However, if you're going to purchase a program, then this is extremely vital. All programs will take a little getting used to, but if the layout is "all over the place", then it may be best to look elsewhere.

The final factor I'll give is that is must fit in with your overall baseball handicapping strategy...meaning, does it coincide with how you go about handicapping on a daily basis. If the program is giving you data and running information that you feel is insignificant, then it's probably not your best choice.

If it's a baseball betting software that is giving you various trends for teams in certain situations and this is what makes up a lot of your handicapping, then this is probably a little more in line.

I think you can see what I'm getting at. Do your homework before purchasing a baseball handicapping program...no different than if you're purchasing anything else.

Creating Your Own Baseball Betting Software

Now this is the route I would highly recommend if you're serious about betting baseball...but this is much easier said than done. There can be tremendous value and opportunity in creating your own baseball betting software.

Now if your extremely computer savvy, then this is no problem. But if you're not, well, it's also no problem, but you'll just need to have a programmer/software developer create one for you.

We've given you the basics of Handicapping a Baseball Game a few chapters back, so this will definitely get you going in the right direction. All of that information, including statistics, trends, formula's etc, can be used to create a very slick program that would save you tons of time from having to do it yourself everyday.

I can't exactly line out how to do everything in a step by step guide (I may someday, but it would be a book in and of itself), but we've listed more than enough websites throughout the Baseball Betting Guide that will give you all of the information you need to get started.

From websites that will provide you with the data (Baseball Prospectus, Fan Graphs, Retrosheet, etc) to forums that can help you with the scraping of the data (SBR and CappersMall, although there are others). Once you've learned to gather and sort the data, it now comes down to actually creating your forecasting model.

We've given you some very good formula's (Pythagorean, PythagenPort, PythagenPat), but you can get as detailed and complicated as you want...even creating your own algorithms. Like I said though, it will take some time (unless you are already very familiar with these concepts), but I can assure you that it can make a big difference in how you handicap a baseball game.

An accurate baseball betting software program can account for a large part of your overall handicapping. While a large time commitment will be needed up front, it can pay dividends for years to come (plus, once you have it set up, tweaking of the software can be done with little effort).

Our Baseball Betting Software Recommendations

To be honest, there aren't a whole lot of baseball betting software programs out there...at least that are worth a darn. We actually only recommend a couple, but are always looking for others to review and possibly recommend as well.

In other words, if you know of any that you feel are worthwhile, please send them our way. As far as our suggestions, here's our short list (which you may or may not already be familiar with):

Stat Attack Sports

Accuscore

Click on each one to read our full review. Both are very different from one another, so I wouldn't suggest one over the other.

I may be stretching it a bit calling Accuscore a software program since you're not actually able control any of the variables, but I will since the forecasting is performed by software exclusively.

As for Stat Attack Sports, it is much more interactive since you can actually enter and manipulate your own variables to find certain trends. If you don't have a database of your own, then Stat Attack (for any sport) is a must have in my opinion.

As I said though, both are good options and both will help in getting you going in the right direction. A solid baseball betting software can be a great addition to any handicappers repertoire.

It's not only a time saver at searching for data, but it will always deliver an unbiased opinion. Ok, ok, you get the point...let's move on.

Last up in our Baseball Betting Guide is our Baseball Handicappers chapter...for the much more hands off approach or if you're looking for a supplement to your own handicapping. As always, best of luck in all your sports betting endeavors.
