When it comes to college basketball betting, there truly are some very sharp handicappers out there...especially when it comes to totals. Obviously, we're not going to reveal some kind of top secret formula to winning the college game, but (as with all of our guides) we will give you some perspective and insights into becoming a better NCAA basketball handicapper. Betting on the college game can certainly be an overwhelming task for most handicappers because of the other sports it coincides with...the NFL is starting down the home stretch, college football is winding down, and the NBA and NHL are already a few weeks in. However, that just means more distractions for the oddsmakers when setting lines for college...but it also means much lower limits, especially on the totals side. That's not necessarily a bad thing though either...unless you're already an elite college basketball bettor. Assuming you're not, this gives you a chance to really study the lines and develop your own strategies and methods. You'll see that early on, it doesn't take much to move a college line. This will give you great insight in to who the money is coming in on or, even better, where the sharp money is being bet. Personally, I like to sit back and watch college basketball for at least a month before starting to take positions...for me it's just to difficult to have a good feel before each team has a few games under their belt (this isn't right or wrong, but rather my own college basketball betting philosophy). As I stated earlier, there are some great handicappers in the college game. With as many teams that have lined games, it's very difficult for the oddsmakers to set an accurate line every time. And that's why a lot of bettors feel college basketball is the most profitable sport to handicap...and that's also why sportsbooks have reduced limits because they know the sharp bettors can and do have a distinct advantage.
