Choosing a Sportsbook

Check out my recommended sportsbooks by clicking here

When it comes to betting on sports, choosing a sportsbook (or more importantly sportsbooks) ranks right up there as one of the most vital things you need to consider. With the hundreds of sports gambling web sites out there today, it certainly can seem like an overwhelming task.

The issue isn't finding a sportsbook, it's more in trying to narrow down the few that match your sports investing needs. After all, it's almost like a bank since they'll be holding your hard earned cash.

It doesn't just come down to choosing one sportsbook. I would highly encourage you to have money on deposit at 4-5 different books because you'll want to be able to get the best lines possible at all times. I'll say it again just because it's that important: find and have money on deposit at 4-5 reputable sportsbooks.

I would recommend splitting 55% of your bankroll between the two books you think you're going to use most often. The remaining 45% should then be split equally (15% each) amongst the three others.

This not only allows you to have money on deposit with five different sportsbooks to take advantage of the best lines but it also allows you to diversify your risk just in case one were to become insolvent (very rare especially if you follow my criteria and personal recommendations).

When searching for the best online sports betting sites to suit your needs, you really need to narrow your focus down to a few certain factors. Everybody has there own criteria, but here are mine, listed in order of importance:

  • Financial Stability
  • Betting Options (range of sports and limits)
  • Vigorish/Juice
  • Financial Transactions
  • Bonuses
  • Customer Service
  • Quality of Web site

Now there certainly can be other factors, but in my opinion these are the most relevant. Put in the time to do your research before depositing a dime. It's better to be safe than sorry.

The following is a must when choosing a sportsbook: Be very weary of sportsbooks that are recommended by touts or handicappers that sell picks for money.

Many times the tout is in cahoots with the sportsbook i.e. The tout recommends a game and you go to bet on it at the sportsbook he recommends but you get a much worse line than you would have somewhere else. It happens and I always recommend you check out Sportsbook Review before opening an account

I go into a lot more detail of my top criteria in the How to Choose a Sportsbook Page. Within this page, we'll go through what you need to know in order to find the best sportsbooks that are out there.

Once you know what to look for when choosing a sportsbook, check out my own personal recommendations. These are the books that I personally use and feel very confident in recommending them to anybody. They rate extremely high with my criteria and I'd encourage you to check them out here.

As I've stated before, I put in a lot of time, research, and due diligence into the sportsbooks I use and recommend (unlike a lot of websites that are basically "whoring" themselves out for money). I would never recommend a sportsbook that I personally don't use myself.

Once you have a good understanding of how to choose a sportsbook and taken a look at my personal recommendations, I'd then suggest going to Sportsbookreview.com . This is by far the most comprehensive sportsbook review web site out there today.

Sportsbookreview.com has a very in depth grading system, their own black list, as well as an entire rating guide for virtually every sportsbook that's on the internet. I would encourage you to bookmark there site and check back periodically since it's updated on a daily basis.

If you ever have a dispute with a sportsbook, go to this page at Sportsbook Review. They are extremely good at getting disputes or issues resolved in a very timely manner. I would suggest going here first before doing anything else (especially bad mouthing a sportsbook on a message board).

Choosing a sportsbook is something you should put some serious time into. You're going to be spending a lot of time placing wagers on their web sites or over the phone so you need to make sure your comfortable with everything (not to mention they're going to be holding your cash too).
